So why is the digital book free? What about Kindle, Nook, Android, Calibre, Sony Reader, etc.? What’s going on? It would be easy to slot this into those formats and let the international distribution network of Ingram (Lightning Source) handle the rest. I could do that and would probably earn more money, and for publishing anyone else’s work I definitely would, but for this particular book of mine there are two reasons why I’ve decided against it.

The first is, the digital download debate: those who are honest buyers, buy; and those who are not, steal and share illegally. Honest buyers would still buy knowing they could illegally download pirated copies; but it rankles, knowing they’re paying while others get it for free. If I digitally protect (DRM) this book, the unscrupulous can circumvent that and place honest buyers in this unfair position. To me, hard copies deserve payment as there are real costs involved in paper, ink, printing, binding, and shipment aside from talent and labour; and the digital copy deserves real payment for the art and labour and talent involved; ­but – in digital products, honest payers compete with dishonest non-payers to get hold of the same product and there’s no moral pay-off: instead of feeling virtuous, they feel hard done-by. 
 
One option -- an option that lets the honest buyer regain the moral high ground, to feel virtuous and not feel aggrieved at the asymmetric set-up -- is to start with a level playing field: to offer the digital copy for free! This way, honest buyers don’t have to buy and neither do the unscrupulous, but the honest buyer may well be happy to leave a generous tip! And if they do, they’re not competing with anyone or anything except their own conscience – they know a fair price should be paid for artists’ work, but they’re free to take the leap and make a donation or not. It’s now up to them. I might get lucky and find a generous $100,000 donation from someone - there are some wonderful eccentrics out there! Heck, the unscrupulous may also feel a momentary pang of guilt at taking something they know ought to be paid for, with all the effort involved in putting it together, and maybe they’ll leave a tip! Stranger things have happened.

In any event, the second reason I wanted to offer this book for free as a digital product is because it may be a satirical parody, but it may also guide people to think again about science and God, to learn to live and let live, and perhaps accept that God is real, as I truly know him to be; and I know him to be that with all the certainty of CERN chasing the Higgs boson, never knowing ultimately if that belief will prove correct in our lifetime! And even if it does prove true, CERN bought into faith with billions of dollars and no scientific validation, and that's the key. In my case, my internal proof of God is all but available for scientific evaluation (I know it to be true in ways that cannot be measured scientifically) – and I think that’s the way it was meant to be.

Of course, I need to make a living for myself and my family, but my firm faith in God has its roots in what you find in this book, and sharing that more widely has become more important. I think maybe only people with faith in God will truly get that, but hey ho. And because I wrote it off the back of the mysterious onset of blindness in one eye that made me think about my mortality and all this stuff - I wouldn't have tackled it without it - I guess it's possible that God's the true author! But I'm afraid I get to keep his millions! Ha Ha.

I’ve had other very serious legal issues on my mind (the Amazon, Dawkins libel case and the Nike trademark case) so apologies for not getting around to this sooner – and thank you to those who have still been buying the hard copy book. I hope it doesn’t rankle to find it’s now freely available digitally, but if does, let me know and we’ll work something out.

Some have been generous in reading this book and saying that despite its satirical parody aim, it does in fact demonstrate the fact of God’s necessity (no mere God-of-the-gaps argument, but a God of absolute necessity). There are real scientists and mathematicians out there who may dispute that and I’m happy for them to do so; but so far I’ve seen none--just a lot of angry militant-atheists in character assassination mode! And I can divulge that it has sold to someone (who shall remain nameless) at one of the most prestigious science academies in the world – the Max Planck Institute - and they have remained studiously silent! Ha Ha.  

It’s perhaps no coincidence that Sir David Attenborough has now come out and said God may be real after all… and certainly not incompatible with evolutionary biology:

I guess I don't need to deal with this next point, it'll become obvious once you've read the book, but what the hey - For what it's worth, I’m not a creationist as others have crassly stated in their on-going character assassination attempt (jeez, will it ever end! you reveal the truth of God at your peril;)). It's also being levelled at me knowing it's false. The High Court case has had all the info to demonstrate the absurdity of that but the lie is still being peddled, pathetically. Sir Peter Vardy sued for libel after being called a creationist because it's actually a damaging slur, but those who have chosen to continue to call me a creationist are just so steeped in fascist and racist lies and deceits that I guess we should expect nothing more from them. Creationism.co.uk is also wildly unhinged in its hysterical portrayal of what it thinks creationism should mean (and it's their type of view that's gaining more seriously damaging currency), but in the most obvious and important respect it cannot be true to say I am a creationist because creationists don’t believe in evolutionary biology, and I can tell you that evolutionary biology is an absolute fact, as transparently obvious as any scientific fact. But when Sir David Attenborough now concedes that evolutionary biology may not be incompatible with God, you need to read this book to find out exactly why he and I agree…
